OCA Condemns Killing of Children: Office Calls for Parents and Guardians to Seek Grief Counselling

The Office of The Children’s Advocate (OCA) is deeply concerned about reports over the past 24 hours of the bodies of three (3) children: two in Trelawny and one in St. Catherine. Additionally, the report of a teenage girl found in Maxfield Park, St. Andrew earlier this week, whose body is yet to be identified.

The OCA condemns these cruel acts, and calls on all Jamaicans to understand that we all have a responsibility to ensure that our children’s safety and well-being is of paramount importance.

“It is a worrisome moment in our history when as a nation there are persons in society who continue to prey upon our children and rob them of their fundamental right to life. As Children’s Advocate, I extend condolences to the families of these children and hope that they find comfort, despite the current pain, in the wonderful memories their children brought to their lives,” Mrs. Diahann Gordon Harrison, Children’s Advocate noted.

“The OCA stands committed to its public education efforts, as we believe that it is through sensitization that we can help to change the mindset of persons on how to deal with children positively. We also encourage parents, guardians and caregivers to seek assistance through the many social services that exist, if they need assistance about how to cope with the loss of their children,” Mrs. Gordon Harrison added.

The OCA stands committed to enforcing the rights and best interests of all children, and calls on everyone to do their part, as the safety and security of our children must be at the cornerstone of our society.
